Writing letters

This term we wrote a variety of letter types, for example friendly, business, complaint and apology letters. Our favourite activity was writing to Mr T and sharing our dreams for Botany Downs in the format of a super sized postcard. Some of our suggestions were: an upgrade to our school playground or swimming pool, a movie night, a school news show and a pet day. Mr T thought our ideas were really good.

Mussel Preparation

One hot Monday afternoon room 15 and room 14 went to the staff room, to prepare mussels and pipis. They were alive before we cooked them. We were touching the shells and feeling its smooth and shiny texture. At first they smelt like salt water and after a while we got used to it. The colours varied - some were orange and some were white. After we cooked the mussels, we discovered something interesting hiding inside - a tiny little parasite crab. The mussels tasted really yummy but some people didn't enjoy it because it tasted slimy.

Dogs on the Beach

I stare with great interest at the two marshmallow, fluffy dogs, sprinting down the beach. Every drop of water splinters into the air like an explosive detonation. The sand under the dogs' feet buckle as they hurtle across.
The bitter smell of salt invades my nose and the dogs screech to a halt. They both pull outrageously funny faces. I chuckle at the sight. Now covered in water, the dogs both look like my hair on a Sunday night after a shower.
Suddenly, out of the blue, I hear the sound of a seagull. The dogs start barking furiously at the seagull and start to hurtle towards it. The battle suddenly turned into a barking and screeching frenzy. The ending is horrific, so I think I'll stop here....

 Swimming

I can remember the freezing water coming right up to my torso. I started shivering endlessly. I even made some little ripples in the water. I started feeling really nervous! It wasn’t like I was the only one. I stared down the row of people I could easily tell we all felt the same way.
“On your marks,” it sounded really croaky. But I wasn’t focused on it anyway I had other thing to worry about. “Get set” he said. I looked to the end of the pool where the crowd of kids were cheering. “Bang!” I jumped into streamline and dived under water.

The bottom of the pool looked crystal blue. I came up for a breath of air and went straight into freestyle. I couldn’t tell if I was in the lead but I knew I wasn’t last. For me it seemed like it was never going to end. It was also hard to focus when you had Wayne screaming in your ear. “Slap” my hand hit the wall. I stood up “DANG!” I came 2nd to my brother who came 1st and of course it was in the final.            By WH
