Spectacular Science Road Show

Spectacular Science Road Show

The spectacular Science Road Show was really fun because we got to see a short, informative presentation at the beginning. It was about arcs, sparks and gherkins. We started off with learning how electricity flows through a current and about conductors and insulators. Some students were brave enough to lie on a bed of nails (OUCH!). It was so awesome - I loved it because when we laid on the nails it didn't hurt, as it gave way.We also got to see light get conducted from a electric conductor and it was directed onto an electricity sphere shape. We all thought the show was very interactive and and enjoyable!

AUTUMN MATHS ART

In maths we have been learning about tessellating shapes.
These can be found in nature, in design and in art.
Tessellating shapes are shapes that do not overlap and have no spaces between them.
We found out that there are only three basic shapes that tessellate – these are squares, hexagons and equilateral triangles.
Other non-regular shapes that have different length sides such as oblongs and shapes with different angles like diamonds do tessellate also.
Other shapes such as circles and octagons do not tessellate.
After we had made our shapes background we drew a silhouette of an autumn tree on it and coloured our shapes in autumn colours.
To tessellate a shape, you have to slide it, rotate it or flip it.
You have to move it.
Enjoy our autumn maths art.

AUTUMN AT BDS

Room 19 have been inspired by the autumn weather and we have been listening to autumn songs.
We went for an autumn walk and took photographs and videos of our beautiful school in autumn.
Then we found a song to go with our camera work and we made a movie.
Although this time of year can bring cold and wet weather, we still think there is a lot of beauty that we can appreciate.
Enjoy our movie!

Kings of the Throne

Cold flesh runs down his pale face. King Volter had killed heaps of innocent people with a swipe of his finger. The war between the kings seemed like it was never going to end.

Corpse littered the floor. King Volter had just wiped out the whole cloud army. Countless attacks collapsed the flanks causing the centre to get ambushed. Volter won the small battle with the help of the Giants. They secretly made an alliance .I’m king Zec my kingdom is filled with warriors throughout history.

The war has been around for centuries it all started when Volter was thirsty for royalty. He set up the kings reacting to it the way they did caused them to hate each other. My guts were twisting and turning that day. Today we were going to try and convince the futuriods to make an alliance. They have advanced technology capable of ripping apart Volters army, except we heard stories that Root soldiers were planning to do what we did but they came back beheaded. The rain started to kick in we had to set up the horses through the brute weather. I had a feeling that this was going to be a hard journey.

My Story

The year is 1916. I’m in platoon Ciara.

A war has sprung to life and the British have penetrated a spot where we could win this war. Little did we know they were waiting for us.

‘Tiger tanks flanking us from left and right!’ bellows our commander.

An explosion hits our trench and sends dirt hurtling to the ground. A bullet penetrates my rifle, and splinters dig into my flesh. The bullet drops and hits my comrade in the chest. Not far from me I see a Sherman tank in a blazing fire ball. The fire is rising and shouts echo through the crumbling wreak.

Without thinking I race through the hatch and see a motionless driver. It looks like they took the hit there. My flesh is starting to burn and every second is a precious piece of time. I grab the shouting man, and haul him through the wreck. We stumble onto the top of the tank, but it explodes. We hurtle through the air.

I feel a stab of excruciating pain in the right side of my chest as I land on the ground and roll violently across the dirt. I put my hand up to my chest and am horrified by the bloody hand I pull back. I realise I am the only one alive from my platoon but I am losing blood fast. I hide in a small hole but am eventually found.
