Kings of the Throne

Cold flesh runs down his pale face. King Volter had killed heaps of innocent people with a swipe of his finger. The war between the kings seemed like it was never going to end.

Corpse littered the floor. King Volter had just wiped out the whole cloud army. Countless attacks collapsed the flanks causing the centre to get ambushed. Volter won the small battle with the help of the Giants. They secretly made an alliance .I’m king Zec my kingdom is filled with warriors throughout history.

The war has been around for centuries it all started when Volter was thirsty for royalty. He set up the kings reacting to it the way they did caused them to hate each other. My guts were twisting and turning that day. Today we were going to try and convince the futuriods to make an alliance. They have advanced technology capable of ripping apart Volters army, except we heard stories that Root soldiers were planning to do what we did but they came back beheaded. The rain started to kick in we had to set up the horses through the brute weather. I had a feeling that this was going to be a hard journey.

My Story

The year is 1916. I’m in platoon Ciara.

A war has sprung to life and the British have penetrated a spot where we could win this war. Little did we know they were waiting for us.

‘Tiger tanks flanking us from left and right!’ bellows our commander.

An explosion hits our trench and sends dirt hurtling to the ground. A bullet penetrates my rifle, and splinters dig into my flesh. The bullet drops and hits my comrade in the chest. Not far from me I see a Sherman tank in a blazing fire ball. The fire is rising and shouts echo through the crumbling wreak.

Without thinking I race through the hatch and see a motionless driver. It looks like they took the hit there. My flesh is starting to burn and every second is a precious piece of time. I grab the shouting man, and haul him through the wreck. We stumble onto the top of the tank, but it explodes. We hurtle through the air.

I feel a stab of excruciating pain in the right side of my chest as I land on the ground and roll violently across the dirt. I put my hand up to my chest and am horrified by the bloody hand I pull back. I realise I am the only one alive from my platoon but I am losing blood fast. I hide in a small hole but am eventually found.

Moments in time

Fredo the fox

One hot sunny day there was a fox named Fredo. He was in the dripping, wet garden as he sneaked into a short but shadowy cave. There was a hole you could peer through in the solid rocks. The sun shone down on this daffodil which looked like gold. Fredo ran like a bolt of lightning to just touch that plush soft watery daffodil. He was sitting on the cold, crystal clear ice - like Atlantic water. Then he reached out to take a sniff until...                                        IS Room 15

The four polar bears.

Look there! The white soft polar bears look so cuddly. The green trees are covered in soft white snow. You can only see the tip of the tree sticking out. You can hear the roaring of the two polar bears playing. You can hear the ice cracking under the mummy bear's feet. The baby polar bears are playing hide and seek. Their little paws sink into the ice cold snow. One baby is hiding under mum's tummy. He is so scared the ice is going to break.                            LS Room 15

Puppy Footprints at Botany Downs

We had an amazing opportunity to meet two guide dog puppies this morning. It was Arno and Zeira's first trip outside of their home. They were so tired on arrival, that Zeira slept for most of the visit. It was really interesting to learn about a 'Guide Dog Trainer Coordinator's' job and the skills required. Kim, our visitor shared about her journey of working at the SPCA and then training and working as a vet nurse, before pursuing this amazing and rewarding career. The puppies have nearly 2 years of training and the red jackets prepare them for wearing a harness one day, when guiding their blind owners. This is definitely a career path for people who love and enjoy working with animals.

Dr. Campbell Emmerton talks to senior classes about his job.
As part of our unit on careers, we were very lucky to have psychiatrist Dr Campbell Emmerton come to our school last week on Friday the 14th of May. Dr Cam talked to the senior members of our school about how he arrived at his chosen career, the training he had to undertake and answered many questions from the students. We found out that brains were spongy when you touched them, the importance of being curious and following your instincts, that relationships with friends and family are very important to staying healthy and happy and that expressing your feelings and emotions good for you.
Dr Cam's talk was entertaining, witty, inspirational and insightful. Thanks Dr Cam for coming and sharing your thoughts, stories and humour with us. We now have many students that aspire to become psychiatrists like you!

Camp Kawau - Mansion House

On Wednesday the 6th of May we went to Mansion House. It was a challenging walk (climb as some would describe it) to the house. We saw a wallaby on our way and he posed for photos. We saw a variety of things inside Mansion House. We liked the weapon room and the kitchen. We also saw loads of trees outside and animals from different countries. All the different materials and furniture were all very old and well retained. The house was very fancy and old . It was older than 100 years and looked like it would fall down any second because the floors creaked. The floors were cracked in places. Some of the rooms were blocked off meaning 'please don't touch'. We all had a wonderful time at the Mansion House. :)
